Summary

New York Times bestselling author Anne Bishop returns to her world of the Others, as humans struggle to survive in the shadow of shape-shifters and vampires far more powerful than they are。 。 。 。

After the Elders cleansed and reclaimed many human towns, Lakeside Courtyard has emerged relatively unscathed, though Simon Wolfgard, its wolf-shifter leader, and blood prophet Meg Corbyn must work with the human pack to maintain the fragile peace。 But all their efforts are threatened when Lieutenant Montgomery's shady brother arrives, looking for a free ride and easy pickings。

With the humans on guard against one of their own, tensions rise, drawing the attention of the Elders, who are curious about the effect such an insignificant predator can have on a pack。 But Meg knows the dangers, for she has seen in the cards how it will all end: with her standing beside a grave。 。 。 。

A good endingSuspenseful, at times violent。 But a fitting and satisfying ending to a very good storyline。 I was rooting for Meg and Simon and Sam to become a little family。 Does that happen? Read to find out who lives and loves and who dies。 One star off (more like a half star) as the bad guy was almost TOO evil。

I do love this series。 The world build is so detailed and so different for any other series I have read。 There is so many characters to love and a few to hate。 I found this book a bit slower than the previous books but it wasn't without drama and emotion。 This book focused on the packs, the human ones included coming to terms with the events of the previous book and learning to rebuild and carry on after the failure of HFL。 It was about Meg trying to be a role model for other blood prophets whil I do love this series。 The world build is so detailed and so different for any other series I have read。 There is so many characters to love and a few to hate。 I found this book a bit slower than the previous books but it wasn't without drama and emotion。 This book focused on the packs, the human ones included coming to terms with the events of the previous book and learning to rebuild and carry on after the failure of HFL。 It was about Meg trying to be a role model for other blood prophets while dealing with the addiction to cut。 The main story though was about Cyrus, Monty's brother who turned up looking for a handout and to cause trouble for everyone。 He is the main villain in this book。 I loved how this story concluded。 I can't wait for more of this world 。。。more

Sigh。。。 I'm both happy and sad at the moment。 Happy because (of course) it was such a great book but also sad since it was the last we see of our friends。Worldbuilding:As far as I know, this is the last book about the Lakeside Courtyard (*sniff*) so it was nice that we pretty much stayed here the whole instalment。As always, all scenes and environments were very well written, letting my mind remain fully immersed in the story。 Character development:Meg has come such a long way from when we first Sigh。。。 I'm both happy and sad at the moment。 Happy because (of course) it was such a great book but also sad since it was the last we see of our friends。Worldbuilding:As far as I know, this is the last book about the Lakeside Courtyard (*sniff*) so it was nice that we pretty much stayed here the whole instalment。As always, all scenes and environments were very well written, letting my mind remain fully immersed in the story。 Character development:Meg has come such a long way from when we first met her, trying to escape the Controllers。 It feels with this book, she has come full circle。 She has grown and learned so so much。 I love how she used her prophecy cards instead of making cuts, even though it was still very tempting。 She and Meri Lee are getting really good at deciphering their meaning and I hope we will see other blood prophets use her method in later books。 Simon steps up for his people in this instalment, trying to keep the worst of some really bad influence out of the different packs living in Lakeside Courtyard, even if his hands are partially tied by the Elders。 Meg and Simon are confused about their feelings for each other, which made me roll my eyes on numerous occasions, seriously :)In this instalment, I really felt how tight the different packs are, to their own and to the other packs living in the Courtyard。 They have their home, and they will defend it in any way possible。 As we have come to expect from the author, all the characters feel vibrant and alive。 Very well written!Pacing and flow:The whole book you just know bad stuff is going to happen, and every time you're like 'is this it?' (it wasn't :p)。 It kept me on my toes and I had so many problems putting the book down, but I really needed some sleep (in my defence, it was 4。30 in the morning)。 Great balance between action and conversation。The book:The book was well written with no (noticeable) errors。 There is no sex described (if that is important to you。The book is 397 pages long, spread over 33 chapters and written from multiple point of views (mainly Meg and Simon and Vlad)。Final thoughts:It seems this is the last book for Meg and Simon (so far) and that makes me freaking sad。 Hope we will get to see how they are doing in the spinoff though! (I mean, that ending can't be the only thing we get, right?)This series has been one of my favourites from book 1 onwards and I can't recommend it enough! 。。。more

Definitely my least favorite of the series。 It’s very slow, and I don’t know, something about the way the antagonist was written just seemed “off” to me。 I can’t really explain it。 Still looking forward to reading the next one, though!

I finished "The Others" series! I'm both satisfied, because it was about time (I read book 1 in 2016!), and sad, because it always is when you finish a series you really liked。In this final installment, Jimmy, brother of Lieutenant Montgomery, arrives to Lakeside。 His plan is to receive board and lodging there for free, while he plots to make money out of trafficking and other illegal stuff (what he has done his entire life)。 But tolerance towards badly behaving humans is low among the Others, a I finished "The Others" series! DeWtf。 Wtf。 Wtf。 Wtf。 That's it! That is not fair。 It ended too abruptly。 I wanted just a bit more of Simon and Meg。 In general it was a good story, although around the last book I got a bit bored because even though Meg is supposed to be the main character, everything revolved around the human pack, and I was a bit sick of them。 They were somewhat like leeches in my opinion。But, I did not want to not know what happened to Meg and Simon after reading 4 slooow books so I read the fifth, to have a DeWtf。 Wtf。 Wtf。 Wtf。 That's it! This series is simply PERFECT for these crazy times! Not too shallow, not too deep, just a fun fantasy romp with enough of a plot to stay interesting。 LOVE!!!

I did not find this as interesting as the first three books in the series, but still enjoyed reading about the daily lives of the characters。

Neat world building。 Was reserving judgment on this, since relationship-centric stories by women authors tend to equate to female literary porn。 This stayed clean。 When you can develop enough plot around the characters and situations that the fulmination of a relationship that took five books to build is a simple kiss。。。good writing。 And kudos to maintaining consistency in the POV narratives of the Others, particularly Simon。 It’s hard enough for female authors to write a convincing male perspec Neat world building。 Was reserving judgment on this, since relationship-centric stories by women authors tend to equate to female literary porn。 This stayed clean。 When you can develop enough plot around the characters and situations that the fulmination of a relationship that took five books to build is a simple kiss。。。good writing。 And kudos to maintaining consistency in the POV narratives of the Others, particularly Simon。 It’s hard enough for female authors to write a convincing male perspective that isn’t tainted by what women WISH men were thinking。 Add in the non-human, almost emotional disconnect in the wolf POV。。。that’s not easy writing。 Tip of the hat to Bishop。 。。。more

My favorite book in the series! These books just build and build on each other and get better with each one。 But this was my favorite。 All of these characters just grow and grow。 I especially liked their interactions with Twyla and I loved the progress for Skippy。 Just a great series!

While marked in flesh (book number 4 in the series) honestly felt like it could’ve ended the series, this final book does a great job of wrapping things up while at the same time giving us a whole new story。 As usual, Anne Bishop makes you crave what happens next with each character while simultaneously making you hate the main villain。 While I am sad the series is over, Bishop does a good job of giving closure and a great ending!

A tremendous finish to the five books! I enjoyed every one of them - in fact, they were so good, I ordered 2-5 all at once as soon as I'd read the first。 And then read them in less than a week, staying up last night till 2。30am to finish it。 Shifters, humans, conflict resolution, revolt, and liaison。 It's got the lot。 Highly recommended。 A tremendous finish to the five books! Just couldn’t give it 5/5 as I hated Jimmy and his family that much。 And seeing how Meg is 24, Simon is older but both are naive about all things human, I still don’t fully like how child like they can behave and see things。 Not true Spoiler but - this series continues without them。 Don’t know if I like that but if you see the nexts book summary, you’d already know。

Well I’m a bit disappointed with how the story has ended。 No spoilers but I feel like as an end to Meg and Simon as well as the rest of the Lakeside stories this felt in finished。 The book was still good but I had to dock a star for how unfinished the story for that whole group remains; it’s similar to the ends of some of the other books where it feels like there should be something else after this book for that same group of characters。

I enjoyed this book the first time I read it but not so much the second time around。
